The Sacraments and the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC)

Within the Catholic Church, we celebrate 7 Sacraments: Baptism, Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick.

Students enrolled in an Assumption Religious Education Program, who desire to be brought up in the Catholic faith, receive instruction for celebrating the 3 primary Sacraments of Initiation:

Baptism

First Communion and

Confirmation.

As part of the preparation for First Communion, students also celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Parents interested in having their children Baptized should contact the parish office about Baptism preparation classes 636-240-3721 . Once classes are complete, Baptism can be scheduled at one of our monthly Sunday Baptism celebrations.

Students who have already been Baptized can receive instruction to prepare them for the other Sacraments. As part of our regular PSR and day school curriculum, students in 2nd Grade prepare for their First Communion, and our 8th Grade students prepare for their Confirmation.

We invite you to consider our RCIC process if:

- Your child is in Grades 3 through 8, has not yet been Baptized or received First Communion, and desires to become Catholic, or

- Your 8th Grader desires to be Confirmed but has not received his/her Baptism or First Communion

Please be aware that it is the Assumption's Religious Education policy that children are in a formal faith formation program for a minimum of 2 years before receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Please contact the Religious Education office at 636-240-1020 for further information.
